When should my baby be seen for his/her first visit?
If we’ve examined your baby at Good Samaritan Hospital after birth, we will give you instructions on when to follow up in our office, usually from 2-14 days after delivery.If the baby was born in a different hospital, the examining physician will tell you when to come to our office for follow up.
How often should my child be seen for routine Well Child Visits?
The current American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations are for routine visits at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, 2 ½ years, 3 years, and annually thereafter.

How about sick visits? Can I choose which doctor or nurse practitioner I would like to see? Will my child be seen the same day that I call? How many children can I bring?
Sick visits are scheduled for the same day. Every effort will be made to accommodate your requests for a specific health care provider. However, in order to maintain an appropriate flow of patients throughout the day and to minimize wait times, there will be occasions when requests cannot be accommodated.
We will schedule an appointment for any of your children who are ill. We need to know, in advance, how many children you will be bringing, so that we may schedule accordingly. If you have made an appointment for one or more of your children, and end up bringing additional children, we may not be able to examine them until after other, previously scheduled, appointments have been seen.
Well visits generally need to be scheduled several weeks in advance, and you can select any available practitioner.

Can I call with questions for the doctor or to order prescription refills?
Yes our doctors and nurse practitioners would be happy to discuss certain issues over the phone. Our policy is that semi-urgent questions are answered on the same day and routine questions within three business days. There may be circumstances for which we feel that the medical topics in question require an in-office conversation or examination, and that will be communicated to you.
We would be happy to refill your prescription if necessary and appropriate. Each request for a prescription refill is subject to a medical review. It is possible that an office visit will be required prior to the authorization of a prescription refill.We will not prescribe antibiotics for throat cultures or rapid strep tests performed outside of our office.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will shots be given at every visit?
Most visits for children under age two will include vaccinations. We will discuss every vaccine before administration, and you will be offered Vaccine Information Pamphlets to enhance your understanding of why immunizations are important and safe.
Do you have laboratory or x-ray facilities in your office?
There are a limited number of basic lab tests that we perform in our office. Additionally, there are several nearby labs and radiology groups to whom we refer our patients who need more comprehensive testing.

Which insurances do you take?
For a full list of insurances accepted by Hillcrest Medical Associates, please refer to our insurance page on this website. If your insurance requires you to select a primary care provider, it is essential that one of our doctors/nurse practitioners be listed on your card. Otherwise, we will not be able to see your child, or authorize referrals or prescriptions. Please notify your insurance company as soon as you have a baby.
Co-pays are required at the time of your child’s visit, as specified by your insurance company. Most insurances require a co-pay for sick visits, but not for well child care. We are required, by law, to collect your co-pay, under the terms of our agreements with the insurance companies. If we do not receive a copay at the time of service, there may be an additional charge to you to cover our billing costs. For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

What if I need forms filled out for my child’s school or camp?
A Universal Health form will be generated after each Well Child visit. This will include a health history, list of medications, physical exam, and immunization history. This will be valid for 12 months after the date of the exam, and it may be used for schools, camps, or other educational programs. There will be an additional charge if you require us to reproduce this form within those 12 months.

Are you open evenings and weekends?
Our office is open seven days a week. Office hours begin at 9 am, Monday through Sunday. We are open Monday through Thursday until 8pm, Fridays until 5pm, and Saturdays and Sundays until noon. Holiday hours are usually 9 am until noon. After hours, a doctor or nurse practitioner is available to help with emergencies 24 hours per day, seven days per week, via our answering service. We ask that all routine or non-emergent calls be placed during office hours.
